Job opening: Quality and Food Safety Manager

 
 

We are looking for a dedicated manager to lead our team and drive success.

Position Summary:

The Quality and Food Safety Manager at McClement will focus on quality systems, food safety, regulatory compliance, and supplier management. This role will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of food safety protocols, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance standards across our suppliers' locations. This role will collaborate with various teams to maintain and improve our food safety practices, manage inspections, and ensure the safe preparation and delivery of our products to customers.
Responsibilities:

1. Food Safety and Quality Assurance:

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive food safety policies, procedures, and training programs in alignment with local and national, and international regulations.

  • Monitor HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) protocols at the supplier's manufacturing facilities to ensure safe food handling, storage, and preparation.

  • Conduct regular audits and inspections of suppliers' manufacturing facilities to identify potential food safety risks and non-compliance issues.

  • Review records related to food preparation, storage, and serving methods to determine compliance with health codes and regulations.

  • Monitor and coordinate with US suppliers to ensure compliance to product specifications; drive continuous improvement and ensure customer expectations are met by identifying product and process improvement opportunities to reduce variation, increase product consistency, and target valued activities; provide technical support for innovation, cost-saving, improvement, and other menu/brand initiatives.

  • Support and engage in supplier/category and brand reputation risk management by demonstrating food safety, quality, regulatory, and technical subject matter expertise; proactively engage partners and support risk mitigation activities.

  • Identify and implement opportunities to enhance product specifications through a risk-based approach.


2. Regulatory Compliance:

  • Stay up-to-date with evolving food safety regulations, laws, and guidelines, ensuring our practices align with the latest requirements.

  • Collaborate with relevant government agencies and regulatory bodies to maintain compliance with food safety regulations and standards.

  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports and documentation as required.


3. Training and Education:

  • Develop and deliver comprehensive food safety training programs for internal and supplier partners, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge and skills to maintain a safe food environment. •Provide ongoing coaching and guidance to managers and employees on quality and food safety best practices.


4. Vendor and Supplier Management:

  • Work closely with suppliers to ensure they adhere to food safety and quality standards, conducting regular audits and assessments of their facilities.

  • Collaborate with Supply Chain teams to evaluate and select suppliers based on their adherence to food safety and regulatory requirements.


5. Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to ensure alignment on quality and food safety initiatives and regulatory compliance strategies.

  • Provide expertise and guidance on quality and food safety matters during cross-functional meetings and projects.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.

  • 8 years of experience in food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance within the food industry, preferably in a management role.

  • 5 years of Food Manufacturing experience.

  • Strong knowledge of local, national, and international food safety regulations and standards.

  • Experience with HACCP, GMP, and other food safety management systems. SQMS knowledge is a plus.

  • Proven ability to develop and deliver effective food safety training programs.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Exceptional leadership, and problem-solving skills.

  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing potential food safety risks.

  • Experience with crisis management and incident response is advantageous.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Strong ability with numbers and data analysis skills.

  • Technical skills and comfort with databases and report generation software.


ADA Requirements:

  • Exposure to noise in manufacturing facilities; fluctuations in temperature/humidity and dust. Prolonged sitting at desk top screen.
